Featuring movies, theatre, dance, music, and more.

The 1932 Criterion Theatre is a nonprofit cinema, theatre, multimedia art producer and venue committed to safeguarding this historic space for stories, storytellers, and audiences.

The Criterion has been a staple of the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island arts community since its construction in 1932. This season we will be offering a variety of programming suitable for all ages, about 75% movies, 25% alternative programming. This alternative programming will include live theatrical productions, an opera, music, mid-day children's programming, historical tours, and so much more!

The Criterion relies on the generous contributions of individuals. All donations support the theatre's core programs, including arts education, public theatre and performance, year round public programs and fostering the creativity of emerging artists. Through our work, we help connect individuals to the arts and with one another. Your gift directly helps us to expand and continue our efforts within the community.

The 1932 Criterion Theatre ( formerly The Bar Harbor Jazz Festival), is a 501(c)(3), tax-exempt organization.
